The US Open Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York is seeking $400 million in private debt to facilitate revamp plans. The United States Tennis Association is in talks with institutional investors to borrow at least $400 million of private credit. The debt will have multiple tenors with an average maturity of 17 years. It will also include a prospective investment grade rating of single A-, people with knowledge of the matter said. However, they preferred to remain anonymous because the discussions are private. A representative for USTA did not respond to a request for comment.
The USTA is seeking to overhaul the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The state utility is also entirely self-funding the revamp using this debt and existing cash reserve. The aim is to ensure that no taxpayer funds is used in the revamp of the monumental stadium. Another major stadium advancing is the NFL Chicago Bears stadium, a $2bn stadium that is marred in controversies and uncertainties. However, there is significant effort to make sure the project advances to implementation.
Scope of Implementation on the Arthur Ashe Stadium Revamp Plans
The Arthur Ashe revamp plans has been a subject of interest since an $800 million revamp announcement made late 2025. Once complete, spectators can look forward to modernized concourses, new entryways and upgraded suits. It also includes redesigned service areas and improved access to overall infrastructure across the stadium. Also, a $250 million, dedicated athlete facility is being built in Parking Lot A. It is anticipated to feature upgraded locker rooms, spa-like lounges, indoor and outdoor fitness areas and private dining. The enhancements of the projects are expected to be completed in phases with the financing expected to play a fundamental role in the scope. Moreover, full completion is slated for full completion in time for the 2027 US Open, without any interruptions to ongoing tournaments.
