A revitalization project for Willets Point in Queens, New York is in the works. The New York City Football Club (NYCFC) has joined forces with Mayor Adams and the Queens community to spearhead the initiative.

The project has received approval from local community leaders, but a rigorous Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) still needs to be passed by the city later this year.

The Willets Point Revitalization Project will include a 25,000-seat soccer stadium, 100% affordable housing with over 2,500 units, a 650-seat school, a 250-unit hotel, retail and dining options, and over 40,000 square feet of open public space.

Development Plans

The Willets Point Revitalization Project will be developed in two phases on four parcels. The Triangle Parcel, located in the phase one development, will contain 400 housing units and an 18-story hotel near Citi Field. The T Parcel and Northern Parcel, both located adjacent to Northern Boulevard, will have an additional 1,000 affordable units with ground-floor retail space. Both parcels will also have underground parking and a new road called 126th Street that will contain retail and open spaces.

The Project Team

The global architecture and engineering firm HOK will design the soccer stadium. S9 Architecture will design the housing component, which will include mid-rise structures with large courtyards that support the overall shape and massing of the stadium.

The project team has estimated the total cost of revitalizing Willets Point to be around $780 million.
