The new Chicago Park District headquarters, situated in the Brighton Park neighbourhood on around 17 acres of land at 4830 S. Western, has been completed and is now open. John Ronan Architects designed the building with sustainability in mind. They used reclaimed Chicago common brick for the walls of the courtyard and interior spaces, designed the building materials to be durable and easy to maintain and included an aluminium sunscreen to increase energy efficiency.

The developers also took the local environment into account by ensuring window glazing is bird friendly and patterned with ceramic frit that warns off birds; the building also has EV charging stations, 102 bike parking spaces and a 15,000 square foot green roof. The multi-storey 58,100 square foot facility has 17 acres of land and includes a 20,000 square foot public fieldhouse with a gym, fitness center, bathrooms, locker rooms, and community multipurpose rooms.

New Features for Recreation and Education

The new building will provide new cultural, educational and recreational opportunities in the area. The 17-acre campus park includes two turf fields with lights, a grand lawn, paths, a playground, and a spray pool along with a natural area, nature play space and parking for bikes and vehicles. The Chicago Park District will move its administrative headquarters from its current Streeterville location to the new building in early June.
