The city of Walker, Michigan has given its approval for the construction of a new Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel. Located at 2365 Northridge Drive NW, near I-96, the hotel will be situated on the northeastern corner of Walker Avenue and Northridge Drive.

The Walker Planning Commission approved the hotel’s plans on July 5. With a size of 20,877 square feet, the four-story hotel will accommodate 103 guest rooms. The construction will take place on an 11-acre tract of land, with a stormwater drainage basin being developed on the southern half of the property.

The project’s developers are Bhogi Patel of Grand Michigan Lodging LLC and RDG Walker LLC, a division of Rockford Construction based in Grand Rapids. According to Patel, the Homewood Suites by Hilton is an “upper-tier extended stay” hotel that will provide meeting spaces, an indoor pool, and fitness centers for its guests.

Details on the Homewood Suites by Hilton

The Homewood Suites by Hilton in Walker, Michigan will offer various types of units, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites. Guests will have access to kitchenettes equipped with stovetops, refrigerators, and dishwashers. The hotel is also pet-friendly and provides a complimentary cooked breakfast. The exact cost of the hotel is currently unknown, but Patel expects ground to be broken in September, and construction will last for 16 to 18 months. The anticipated opening date is in the first quarter of 2025.

In addition to the Home2Suites hotel in Walker and the Avid Hotel in Zeeland, Patel owns, the location of the new Homewood Suites hotel was chosen to capitalize on the popularity of his current Home2Suites hotel. The hotel site will also feature landscaping, sidewalks, and a 100-space paved parking lot, as mentioned in the planning records. Furthermore, there will be a retaining wall made of modular blocks on the property.
