The John Buck Company and Free Market Ventures have announced that construction on Platform 4611, a mixed-use development in the historic North Side Uptown district of Chicago, has been completed. The mid-rise, nine-story building has been designed by Papageorge Haymes, and McHugh Construction completed its construction at 4611 N Broadway. The development is located near the CTA’s Wilson Red Line Station and features 200 apartments and 9,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

Floors two through eight of this masonry and glass structure include studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments while the top floor features two units each of two-bedroom and three-bedroom penthouse homes. The amenities, including a patio with grilling stations and seating areas, are located on the ninth level and rooftop and offer breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. Each residential floor includes bookable business space, and apartments come with ice makers, washers, and dryers.

Comments from the Senior Project Manager

The senior project manager from McHugh, Jeanne Bartels oversaw the construction of Platform 4611. “We were thrown a couple of curveballs because the building was started during the height of the pandemic. However, our team presented creative solutions throughout the project that saved time and added value.” According to Jeanne, extreme precision and coordination were critical among the structural engineer, the architect, and the subcontractors to account for the various materials required to construct a brick wall.” A lot of thought was given to the design and construction details, including an off-site mockup of the wall before the project even began.”

Bartels states the seamless execution of the project and the beautiful design are the result of all the planning. McHugh completed the project on time and within budget by utilizing the existing foundations to cut costs and procuring materials and appliances through their wide network of suppliers during the supply chain issues that arose due to the pandemic.
