Gia Binh International Airport construction in Vietnam has advanced as DAA International joins the project as strategic and operational partner for the $7 billion airport near Hanoi. Additionally, the development will reshape northern Vietnam’s aviation capacity and strengthen regional connectivity. Importantly, the project will function as a combined aviation, trade, and logistics hub supporting long-term economic expansion. Moreover, planners aim to reduce pressure on Hanoi’s existing Noi Bai International Airport through a new large-scale facility.
The airport sits in Bac Ninh Province and will handle 30 million passengers annually by 2030. Furthermore, capacity will rise to 50 million passengers by 2050 as demand increases. The total investment stands at approximately $7 billion. Consequently, the project ranks among Vietnam’s most significant aviation infrastructure developments. It will serve both passenger traffic and cargo operations across regional and international routes.
DAA International will work with Masterise Aviation Infrastructure to support both development and operational phases. In addition, the partnership ensures continuity from early planning through to airport management execution. Masterise Aviation Infrastructure, part of Masterise Group, leads the delivery framework. Meanwhile, DAA International provides aviation advisory, operational design input, and commercial structuring expertise.
Gia Binh International Airport construction drives northern Vietnam aviation expansion
Gia Binh International Airport construction addresses rising air traffic demand in northern Vietnam. Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport operates near capacity, and therefore the region requires additional infrastructure to maintain efficiency. As a result, the new airport will redistribute passenger and cargo flows across the capital region.
The airport will improve both domestic and international connectivity. Moreover, it will strengthen cargo capacity linked to Vietnam’s export-driven industrial base. Consequently, logistics efficiency across northern economic zones will improve. In addition, the development will attract investment into surrounding industrial and commercial areas.
DAA International supports airport development planning and regulatory readiness. Furthermore, it designs operational concepts and commercial strategies for long-term viability. It also contributes to operational readiness planning and airport management systems. In parallel, it supports knowledge transfer to strengthen local aviation capability.
Vietnam’s aviation expansion continues to accelerate with parallel mega-projects shaping both northern and southern infrastructure capacity. In the south, progress on the $1.8bn Long Thanh International Airport financing milestone reinforces momentum for Vietnam’s largest aviation development, which is expected to eventually handle up to 100 million passengers annually and significantly relieve pressure on Ho Chi Minh City’s existing airport system.
Gia Binh International Airport construction boosts logistics and trade competitiveness
Gia Binh International Airport construction strengthens Vietnam’s logistics and trade competitiveness. The airport integrates passenger and cargo operations, and therefore improves transport efficiency across international supply chains. Additionally, it supports Vietnam’s growing role in global manufacturing and export markets.
Moreover, the project aligns with national infrastructure priorities focused on aviation expansion. Passenger demand continues to grow, and consequently Vietnam requires new capacity to sustain tourism and business travel. Therefore, the airport will play a central role in balancing regional aviation demand.
DAA International brings global airport experience to the project. Notably, it operates and advises airports such as King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Red Sea International Airport in Saudi Arabia. In addition, its ARI retail division operates in 24 locations across more than a dozen countries, including Canada, Indonesia, and Portugal. Consequently, the group contributes extensive commercial and operational expertise.
DAA deputy CEO and DAA International chief executive Nick Cole welcomed the agreement. He described it as a landmark project for Vietnam and emphasized Irish aviation expertise in delivering high-performance airport infrastructure. Moreover, he stated that the partnership will support long-term local capability development in Vietnam.
DAA International reported €47m in revenue last year. However, exchange rate movements in Saudi Arabia contracts affected performance despite operational progress. Meanwhile, Gary Owens has been named chairman of DAA and will assume the role next month, strengthening governance at group level.
Ultimately, Gia Binh International Airport construction will transform aviation distribution in northern Vietnam and strengthen global connectivity through a modern, high-capacity transport hub.
