LS GreenLink USA, Inc. (“LS GreenLink”), a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, Ltd. (“LS Cable & System”), today celebrated a major milestone in its U.S. expansion with the Phase 1 Construction Milestone Ceremony in Chesapeake, Virginia. The company officially marked the start of vertical construction for its state-of-the-art manufacturing and pier facility.
The Phase 1 development represents a $681 million investment. Additionally, it will foresee the establishment of one of the most advanced high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable manufacturing facilities in the world.
Details on the Project
Also, the project is anchored by a 660-foot Vertical Continuous Vulcanization (VCV) tower. Upon completion, will become the tallest structure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It will be alongside a 750,000-square-foot manufacturing facility which is equivalent to approximately 13 football fields under one roof. Additionally, phase 1 will create over 330 full-time jobs.

Significance of the Project

Furthermore, the Chesapeake facility is strategically designed to support the growing demand for advanced transmission. It is also designed to support grid modernization across the United States. Once operational, Phase 1 of the plant will produce next-generation submarine cables essential for strengthening the nation’s power grid. Moreover, these cables will enable efficient long-distance transmission of electricity underwater.
Timeline
Also, Construction for Phase 1 broke ground in April 2025. Moreover, it is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027 and full operations anticipated by the first quarter of 2028.
